Capital Farm Credit
Capital Farm Credit is an agricultural lending cooperative serving Texas agriculture and rural communities, and describes itself as the largest agricultural lending cooperative in the state. It operates as part of the Farm Credit System, and its borrowers are also its owners.
The lending range is broad. Agriculture loans cover operating and production, livestock, aquaculture and equipment loans and leasing. Land loans cover farm and ranch purchases, recreational land, cash equity loans and improvement loans. Home loans cover homesites and construction. Agribusiness lending covers beef and livestock, dairy, poultry, processing and marketing, grain and biofuels, greenhouse and nursery, warehousing, storage and distribution, and viticulture and wineries. Beginning and small producer programs include NextGen, AgVista and AgStart loans, and the association also sells crop insurance, including hail and wind, fire, pasture, rangeland and forage, annual forage and multi-peril cover, and livestock insurance including risk protection, dairy revenue protection and livestock gross margin.
The cooperative was established in 1916 under the Federal Farm Loan Act as part of the Farm Credit System, and its timeline notes that the first Farm Credit loan in Texas was made in 1917 and that Texas was the first association to pay members a dividend on earnings in 1945. It is governed by a board elected by member owners, with regional seats across Texas plus at-large and board-appointed positions, and a portion of profits has been returned through the Patronage Program every year since 2006; the site reports $2.9 billion returned to members since 2006. It operates as Capital Farm Credit, ACA, an Equal Housing and Equal Credit Opportunity Lender under NMLS 493828.
Rates and terms are not published. Applications start online, where a form matches the borrower to the right loan product, or through a local branch; the toll-free line is 877-944-5500. The association's stated territory is Texas, so borrowers elsewhere need a different Farm Credit association.
Best for
Texas buyers of farm, ranch or recreational land and agribusiness operators who want a cooperative lender that pays patronage to its borrowers. Not a fit for non-agricultural commercial property or for borrowers outside Texas.
