TaxJar

TaxJar automates the US sales tax lifecycle for businesses selling across state lines: calculating rates at checkout, monitoring where sales tax obligations have been triggered, aggregating transactions into return-ready reports, and filing and remitting returns.

Rates are applied through an API and calculation engine that the company describes as rooftop-accurate to state, county, city and district rather than zip-code level, with product tax codes assigned to each item so taxability is handled per product. An Economic Nexus Insights dashboard tracks sales and transaction counts against each state's thresholds and alerts the business as it approaches one. AutoFile submits returns to state authorities, and state sales tax registrations are offered as a separate service. Integrations are built in-house for e-commerce platforms, ERPs, marketplaces and shopping carts including Shopify, Amazon, Salesforce, Squarespace and Chargebee, with an API for custom carts.

The company was founded in 2013 to automate sales tax for e-commerce businesses and was acquired by Stripe in 2021; it is one of two tax automation products Stripe offers. It reports more than 20,000 businesses on the platform, coverage of 11,000 jurisdictions, a 100% on-time filing rate in 2025, 99.999% historical uptime, API responses under 25ms, and SOC 2 Type 2 compliance with regular independent reviews.

The published material covers US sales tax only. There are two plan types with tiered pricing but no rate card on the site, so ask for a quote against your order volume.
