SAFEbuilt

SAFEbuilt provides community development and infrastructure services to local governments, public agencies, tribal nations, and private developers. It has served communities since 1992 and reports work in 41 states plus Washington, D.C.

Building department services are the core: plan review, inspections, permit processing, and building official staffing, delivered either as hourly support for a specific gap or as a full embedded department. The municipality's designated manager keeps control throughout, with SAFEbuilt following its guidance, and the firm supplies building officials, plan reviewers, inspectors, permit technicians, and project managers along with electronic plan review technology.

Beyond the building department it offers community planning and zoning, urban design, code enforcement, fire prevention, grant writing and management, landscape architecture, construction engineering inspection, transportation and mobility, real estate and right-of-way, parks and on-site operations, and IT and data services. Private provider services help developers move a project through a jurisdiction faster, and a post-disaster practice covers the structural assessments and permitting needed before rebuilding can start.

SAFEbuilt operates through eleven subsidiary partners, among them Calvin, Giordano & Associates in Florida, Interwest in California, M.T. Causley in Florida, and Winston Services of Fort Worth, Texas, which SAFEbuilt acquired in September 2018 and which reports reviewing and inspecting projects with a cumulative valuation over $10 billion. Work is contracted with municipalities rather than priced publicly, so developers should ask the jurisdiction which services SAFEbuilt handles and what turnaround it is contracted to meet.
