Tenant screening
MyRental
MyRental is an online tenant screening service for independent rental owners, real estate agents, and property managers, and is a trademark of SafeRent Solutions. Reports are bought one at a time or in bundled packages, with no set-up fees, minimums, or monthly fees, and an applicant-pay option can shift the cost to the renter.
The reports available include a TransUnion credit report, the TU Rental Score (a three-digit score from 350 to 850), the proprietary SafeRent Score, multi-state criminal searches with a sex offender registry search included, housing court data compiled from landlord and tenant court records, additional address history, and Income Insights, which compares an applicant's credit behaviour against self-reported income to say whether further income verification is worth requesting. A free, mobile-friendly online rental application collects occupants and pets, applicant contact details, income and employment history, and preferred move-in date and lease term, and a screening request can be attached to it or sent afterwards.
Packages are priced at $24.99, $38.99, and $43.99 per applicant, and individual reports run from $7.99 to $20.99. Products containing credit data require the applicant's consent through a secure TransUnion authorisation sent by email. Landlords must supply a Social Security number and a credit card when creating an account, which the service explains is how it meets FCRA and credit bureau requirements to confirm a permissible purpose. Reports stay accessible for 30 days and are then removed, so a copy should be downloaded for the file.
Coverage has limits worth checking before relying on a report: the renter-pay option is unavailable in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Montana, New York, Vermont, and Wisconsin; criminal record information is not available in Massachusetts; other jurisdictions restrict what records are returned, and court fees can be added. Only United States credit reports can be requested.
Best for
Independent landlords and small managers screening a handful of applicants a year who want per-report pricing with no monthly commitment and an applicant-pay option. Not for operators who need screening built into a property management system.

Common questions
- Which credit bureau does MyRental pull from?
- Credit reports are pulled from TransUnion. The report covers an applicant's banking history, including payments on credit cards, car loans, and mortgages, along with financial matters that went through the courts. Only United States credit reports can be requested.
- Why are a Social Security number and credit card required to open a landlord account?
- Under the FCRA and its contracts with the credit bureaus, the service has to make sure an end user has a legitimate permissible purpose to access consumer reports. Requiring a Social Security number and a credit card when a landlord account is created is part of how it verifies that the account holder is a genuine landlord before releasing the personal information a screening report contains.
