Fahe

Fahe - the Federation of Appalachian Housing Enterprises - is a nonprofit network of more than 50 community-based nonprofits working in the Appalachian parts of Alabama, Maryland, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

It works through those Member organizations rather than around them: channeling national investment to local leaders, building the capacity of Member nonprofits, and leading coalitions that carry local practitioners' perspective into national housing advocacy. Fahe is Member-owned and Member-governed, so its strategies shift as its Members' needs do.

Since 1980 Fahe says it has invested $5 billion and changed the lives of more than a million people. Its current Housing Can't Wait campaign commits to building or rehabilitating 60,000 homes and delivering community services to a million people over five years. It has run disaster recovery work with Members after the 2022 Eastern Kentucky floods and after Hurricane Helene in 2024, and its homeownership work with Members includes the USDA 502 Direct loan program.
