California Self Storage Association

California Self Storage Association represents self-storage owners, operators and vendors in California. It is governed by an elected board of directors made up of owners and vendors, and its stated focus is legislative representation, member education and connections between operators.

Members get a legal help center, a bill watch list and legal and legislative alerts, a business partner directory, and a library of California-specific operating documents sold through the site: a 2026 California standardized rental agreement written to comply with current state law including SB 709, an annotated guide to California lien law, a vehicle, boat and trailer storage addendum, a new hire forms packet for full-time employees, and an operations forms package. Member and non-member prices differ, and documents are non-refundable once downloaded. Events include an Annual Owners Summit in Newport Beach and an Owners Conference in Napa.

The association was founded in 2002 by independent storage operators and says it now serves over 500 storage owners, operators and vendors and thousands of storage facilities. Its office is at 5325 Elkhorn Boulevard #283, Sacramento. It also raises money for Kure It Cancer Research, a 501(c)(3) organisation.

Advocacy stepped up after 2025, when the association says California self-storage became a target of new legislative scrutiny. It retained the lobbying firm Platinum Advisors, expanded partnerships with the CA Business Roundtable and CA Business Properties Association, and added software to track local city and county initiatives. It is asking members to contribute a minimum of $1,000 per facility toward a $1,000,000+ advocacy fund, separate from dues. Membership dues themselves are not published; request them through the site.
